Maybe He can conjure up animals by looking at their picture. Examples: The bird that flies into a window in a flashback episode is from a book he was reading. The polar bear appears when he watches his father burn his comic book; the page that showed while burning had a polar bear on it. Walt also seems to have the ability to mentally impact his environment. For instance, in one of the very first episodes, his father tells him that he will look for his dog as soon as the rain stops and the rain instantly stops. He was also extraordinarily lucky when playing backgammon with Hurley, receiving the exact die rolls he asked for. His powers were revealed on the show when his mothers husband said that whenever he is around there is trouble..

Hurly keeps seeing number:

Gate 23,
The cheerleaders with the numbers
The hatch with the number listed as a serial number

The French woman's daughter is part of the others group. The others don't seem to have any special powers.

I didn't realize she had cut and paste the information. The response seemed logical.

Do you really want to know?

SPOILER ALERT:

Because Walt is special. He can control things with his mind, see things that no one else can see, and he can even astrally project himself. The Others want to know more about him. And they want to see how he interacts with the supernatural forces on the Island. Plus maybe a higher power wants to meet him?

For what purpose? Again, that is one of the big mysteries yet to be solved on the series.

Walt is Lockes friend. Locke shared Walt's secret of burning the boat.

Walt has no special powers. Walt is a semi-orphan like Locke. Locke relates with Walts loneliness.
