I didn't watch American Idol, but after a quick Google/Scroogle search I see the winner was someone called Kris Allen - the obvious (and only) answer I can give to this question is that Adam Lambert didn't get enough votes, whereas Kris Allen did!

According to the NY Daily News, A poll was conducted as to why he lost against Kris Allen. The majority of the poll went to the reasoning of, "Adam's look didn't appeal to Middle America." He also took to some big risks in some of the songs he decided to sing such as Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. Simon Cowell said, "absolute indulgent rubbish" of his particular choice of songs to sing.

Explaining why he got votes, is better than saying "Adam Lambert did not get enough votes, whereas Kris Allen did!". Your answer would have come off looking liking it has more substance from your sources. It makes a BIG difference backing up your answer.
