It's a tv show on TLC called Jon and Kate plus 8. It's a very popular reality tv show about how they are raising their 5-6yr old twin girls and a set of quintuplets (6).
They're in the news alot lately because their marriage is (apparently) on the rocks and its coming through on the show.
As for why they exist, why not?

A set of six newborns is sextuplets, not quintuplets. Otherwise, good answer.
