Who is the greatest Disney supervillain of all time and why? I mean somebody's who ultra nasty, not just nasty a little bit!

I'm curious to know who you think is the most evil of all the supervillains that Disney have brought us over the last 80 years?

There's loads of them if you think about it?

I'd love to hear who your villain is and why, of course?

Not an easy question so i've thrown in a $1 tip.

To get you're juices flowing i've included the images of 3 candidates:
> Jafar from Aladdin
> Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians
> Madame Medusa from The Rescuers

I also believe that Maleficent is the EVIL evildoer of all-time!

Cruella De Vil?
Bah! Once the dogs escape she just shakes her fist at them and considers herself thwarted.

Jafar?
His sidekick was a parrot. A parrot. And his own stupidity led to his imprisonment and undoing.

Ursula?
She wants to cheese off the sea king by stealing his daughter's boyfriend? Is this junior high all over again?

But Maleficent!
Now that is some E-V-I-L.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a306/nessyrenay/maleficent1.jpg
She's a fairy sorceress who wears a horned hood, and cape resembling dragon wings. She carries an evil staff with magical orb, and a ring with an evil amulet. Her minions are DEMONS (not parrots and eels).

She travels by materializing in a cloud of evil green smoke (not riding in vans or on a horse).

And when she appears at Aurora's Christening, I am still genuinely creeped out at her cordial manor while questioning not being invited.

And then what does she do? She freakin' casts a spell to kill a baby! Just because she was snubbed from a party. A baby! And not in just any quick way - she makes sure the parents agonize for 18 years over her impending death. And that it's their fault. Take that, inconsiderate parents!

18 years later, when her spell goes into effect and things go wrong? Oh yeah, piss her off and she TURNS INTO AN EVIL BLACK DRAGON.

The only way to thwart her is to kill her. That's right, Disney.

Kill her.

This fairy tale villain isn't for the weak. She's the stuff nightmares are made of.

This was a superb answer.

Unfortunate for Silverhammer who also had a superb answer but Gno's answer just had the edge for me.

Nicely put!

Though Jafar had a parrot for a sidekick you gotta give him props for having a parrot voiced by Gilbert Gottfried though.

A magnificent answer, you know I never even thought of her!

You really took me there, really imaginatively worded.

Thanks all.

@chriswingate - oh yeah, he gets serious points for the Gilbert Gottfried voice! :D But still, he rode a horse, had a parrot, and seriously lacked some real brains. Poor Jafar. Never stood a chance.

My first answer is always Maleficient.

http://moonlitgarden.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/maleficent2.jpg

Not because of greed. Not to wear fur. Not for power. Not for glory.

Maleficent was evil to begin with, that's why she wasn't invited to the christening of the Princess.

So what was her reaction?

She cursed the baby to DIE!

For a perceived slight. For not being the center of attention and not being invited. Out of the whole kingdom she was the only one that didn't get an invitation and for that a baby had to die.

Yeah, pretty evil. There's no part of the story where she was misunderstood, or comic relief or saved in the end.

I rate killing babies higher than killing dogs. :)

BUT... having said all that.

Chernabog was more of an "entity" than a simple villain.

http://www.galleryofthelakes.com/images/4thqtr2006/chernabog.jpg

"His name is taken from Chernobog, an evil deity of Slavic mythology; the name is Slavic for "black god." While officially a pagan god, it should also be noted that Chernabog might have originally been intended to be Satan: when "Night on Bald Mountain" appeared on the original Wonderful World of Disney, Walt Disney referred to Chernabog as "Satan himself." He is considered by many to be one of the greatest Disney villains of all time (an irony since his appearance is very brief)." -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernabog

So Maleficent is the most evil Villain, Chernabog the most evil Disney entity. If you consider Chernabog a "villain" than Chernabog wins, no contest.

Ha! I hadn't read through your answer before digging into my own. I see we see eye to eye on the whole "killing a baby because I wasn't invited to a Christening party" thing.

That's pretty wicked.

And since I edited my reply to include Chernabog after you commented, it's interesting that Chernabog was crippled when he hears the tolling of the Angelus Bell. He is then forced to cower when the morning arrives; it leads into a musical rendition of the Ave Maria, symbolizing the triumph of life over death.

But yeah, Maleficent actually being "killed" (not just cowed) is pretty impressive. :)

On the other hand, the version of Chernabog in Neil Gaiman's American Gods was not quite as evil as Maleficent.

I'm also inclined to vote for Cruella De Vil. She was just so horrible to those cute dogs.

Seems as though everyone went 'old school disney ' with the likes of Cruela, and Malificent. But I think that Scar was the most villainous of them all. He was the next in line for the throne until Simba was born. Jealousy fuels his murderous plot to kill his nephew who stands in the way of power over the Pridelands. Not only did he think he killed his nephew, but he cold heartedly murders his brother. Then to top it all off he enslaves his 'people' to do the hunting for the packs of hyenas that are his henchmen. Starving the pride into almost extinction until overthrown by Simba. Deceiptful, sinister, manipulative, power hungry and murderous. Everything a brother SHOULDN'T be! Even the plush doll looks evil! lol!

You know I wonder sometimes whether the Lion King movie is actually suitable for kids, with the death of Simba's dad, etc bit of a tough plot for a kids movie.

Of course Scar the baddie is right at the heart of that.

You know, Scar is pretty wicked and scary. I think the only reason I haven't given him more credit over the years is because I chalked up a lot of his behavior as "wild animal" pack mentality. It's always brutal in lion's pride. So that made him almost realistic...sort of...if you know what I mean.
