It's not a book that came out this year, but I have really been getting into Civil War history. I just read The Killer Angels, by Michael Shaara. It tells the story of the days of the Battle of Gettysburg.
It's a fictional story, but it contains many historical facts to give it a true flavor. That's probably why it won the Pulitzer Prize. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys history.

Really interesting story about not only the history of post war Tokyo, but Japan-US relations and lots of shady deals.
