Frenchmen Street in NOLA is in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, conveniently located very close to the French Quarter. Here, you can enjoy the inherent music of the unique Cajun culture on the streets or in the many music clubs, rumored to be among the best in the area. Because it's not as "tourist-y," drinks are cheaper and there are often no cover charges. There are many restaurants and eateries on the street or nearby, and taxis frequent the street during peak flow hours. This area is more authentic in displaying the true culture of the area, unlike Bourbon Street where natives scoff at the antics of tourists. If you want to experience this culture overflowing with flavorful foods and live music in a bohemian atmosphere, Frenchman Street is the place to go! The links below give more information with some local recommendations to venture out to! Hope this is helpful!

I lived in Lafayette LA in 1993 and 1994 but spent every weekend staying with my friend in Metairie and we often traveled to Frenchman Street and the French Quarter for round after round of plastic cups of beer. All of southern Louisiana has provided me with many good, bad and blurry memories.
Loved every minute of every minute I don't remember.

• A good answer. Except for mixing up Cajun and New Orleans culture, which annoys natives of both cultures.

New Orleans culture is not the same as Cajun culture. There aren't that many Cajuns in New Orleans and no Cajun style restaurants or dance/music locations on Frenchman Street.

New Orleans, while not all-inclusively "Cajun" is a melting pot, and does encompass Cajun culture as well as Creole. Cajun cuisine came out of the country, while Creole came straight for New Orleans restaurants. Frenchmen Street offers many different types of food, one of the restaurants including the Marigny Brasserie which serves Creole cuisine with a modern twist. There is also the Praline Connection that serves Louisiana soul food like gumbo, jumbalaya, and of course, pralines! As far as nightlife, there is live jazz and blues every night at The Apple Barrel, The Blue Nile with jazz and blues and an assortment of other styles. These locations, as well as many others, allow a visitor to get a little taste of what the city has to offer, and yes, they are all on Frenchmen Street!! If you travel to the city, I wouldn't stick to just Frenchmen Street, but it's a good place to spend some of your time. Having spent a good part of my coming up in the area and having grown up down the bayou in the "real Cajun area" as albanian seems to be referencing to, I have a good frame of reference. Anyway, as I said before, hope this is helpful and that you get a chance to enjoy Frenchmen Street!

Frenchmen Street is a true music club scene attraction where locals and tourists come each night to hear live music from musicians that only New Orleans can showcase.
