I don't think anything "happened" to him exactly, I think they have just decided not to use the character very much.

According to the IMDB page, he has been in five episodes in the series:
"The Office"
- Ben Franklin (2007) TV episode, Played by David Koechner
- Back from Vacation (2007) TV episode, Played by David Koechner
- The Carpet (2006) TV episode, Played by David Koechner
- Christmas Party (2005) TV episode, Played by David Koechner
- Sexual Harassment (2005) TV episode, Played by David Koechner

So he was used sparingly anyway, and it looks like they just didn't feel the need to keep up with the character.
