Violin is really inconsistent with a vocal career, so the choices are guitar and piano, each of which has relative strengths and weaknesses.

Guitar is attractive for two reasons. First, guitar is an easy instrument to learn, and its voicing generally blends well with the human vocal range. Second, the guitar is quite portable and easy to carry on stage (and looks good).

Piano is attractive for several reasons as well. First, the piano, while a harder instrument to learn, forces one to learn more music theory and melody/harmony balance. Second, the piano tends to be an easier instrument on which to compose, since it is a more straightforward melodic instrument. Finally, most music theory education requires some level of keyboard knowledge, so piano is always helpful.

Here is my disclosue - I am a guitarist, and I love to sing and play guitar. If I had a better voice, I would be a natural front man. However, I wish that I had learned to play piano on a more formal basis, even if I had done so as a secondary instrument.

It depends on the music style you are aiming for.
Violin is certainly difficult to combine with singing because it can be constraining in terms of body movement.
Piano and guitar are less constraining and easier to combine with vocals only, while violin usualy requires other instruments to make a harmonious sound.

It depends on what ind of singing you want to get in to. Although knowledge of music is useful to any career in singing so I guess the instrument doesn't mean that much. Just pick one you really like and stick at it. Take great care at learning the musical theory.

Why not also look into singing lessons? You might be able to do without a musical instrument altogether.
