According to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063442/trivia

The last scene of the film was recorded at Zuma Beach in Southern California

According to http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/p/planet_apes.html the original 1968 movie, in the desert, was filmed around Page, Glen Canyon and Lake Powell, in northern Arizona.

----Quote-----
The ape village sets were built on the Fox Ranch in Malibu Creek State Park, Las Virgenes Road off Mulholland Highway, south from Route 101, northwest of Los Angeles.
----End Quote-----

So basically, California, and Arizona!
