The red and white looks a bit Toyota-ish... and they have just announced they are leaving F1. Its not the rear wing of an F1 car is it?

Thanks Brian...

Its sad though that after Toyota have pulled out this week there isn't going to be a Japanese interest in F1. Kazuki Nakajima has been 'let go' by Williams and is unlikely to find a drive without Toyota backing. Kamui Kobayashi who made a very impressive start will have to work hard to get a drive in one of the new teams next year.

What was the story behind the photo... as I'm sure we all want to know.

Though having all of the Japanese teams drop out of the sport is definitely not a good thing, Japanese F1 fans are a pretty die hard group (plus many of them were already Ferrari fans... not my favorite)

The picture was from the annual Motor Sport Japan event in Odaiba, Tokyo (my back yard so to speak) The attached video gives you a pretty good idea what the event is all about (may be sad, but the sound from that video makes me tear up a bit.. music I tell you).

Where else in the world do people in their right minds take multi-million dollar racing cars to a parking lot to do burn outs?

Though the Honda driven by Jenson Button in the attached video in 2008 was probably the highlight of the event, getting to sit a couple inches away from the Super Aguri F1 car was pretty nice as well. That's about it!

Not quite, though the paint jobs are very similar (and for good reason).
Hint #2: Though not an aircraft, similar lift is achieved by turning this object upside-down

Possibly a Japanese MagLev train?

Or one of these motorcycle side-cars?

No, but I'm starting to wonder if there were some copyright issues in the paint scheme for said object....

Well, although I am far from a fan I read that Toyota, when leaving F1 racing, was the third after Honda and BMW. BMW seems to have had blue and white colors, Honda is less clear but it looks as if it included red and white.
Since you are a racing fan in Japan, I'll make a bet that behind you in the photo was a Honda racing car.

While @psionandy was warm, you are on fire. Though not quite to the home stretch. I'm looking for a name (and perhaps a picture of the full monty)

I agree. The above hint "similar lift is achieved by turning this object upside-down" would indicate the opposite of the "down force" produced by the spoilers of the F1 car.

Actually planes create "lift". F1 cars produce down-force. But your thinking is correct.

OK, I will add that @Albanian was somewhat correct in his answer. But not completely correct. Third manufacturer yes. Third team?
