According to IMDb and Mahalo, the new "Star Trek" film charts the early lives of Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, played here by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. According to a review in Film School Rejects, much of the film focuses on the burgeoning friendship between these two very different characters, which of course would also form much of the backbone of the original "Star Trek" TV series.

The rest of the story sounds, to me, like something of a redo of the second "Star Trek" film, "Wrath of Khan." According to Cinema Blend, the bad guy is a Romulan captain named Nero (played by Eric Bana) who is plotting some kind of revenge against the Federation. Beyond that, I couldn't find any plot details that didn't seem spoiler-ish.
