What is the funnest new board / tabletop game?

A friend told me that I should get "Ticket to Ride." Another said "Apples to Apples." Another said "Pandemic." Another says "Wits and Wagers." Any ideas on the best / funnest tabletop game?

(Feel free to include card games, if desired.)

(Please don't offer up well-known games such as Risk or Clue or Monopoly of derivations of these games such as Hitchcock Clue or Monopoly Nascar. Thanks!)

(Please don't suggest any electronic or video games. Thanks!)

I loooove Apples to Apples. It is an easy game to pick up, and great with a group of people. You've got two sets of cards: noun cards, and adjective cards. Each turn, one person selects an adjective card at random. Each person must play a noun card from their hand that best matches the adjective card. The person who played the adjective card gets to decide which card is best.

Here are some other fun games.

Munchkin is a very fun card game. It is all about knocking down doors, fighting monsters, getting loot and items to make you stronger, and getting to level 10. It is loosely based on RPG games like Dungeons and Dragons. Munchkin is a very backstabby game, so if you have friends who don't like to get screwed in games, you should stay away from this one.

If you like complicated games that are collaborative, then you'll love Arkham Horror. It is based on the H.P. Lovecraft horror novels and short stories, and just oozes ambiance. The pieces (and there are a lot of them) are made of sturdy materials and the artwork is richly colored and detailed. Did I mention this game is complicated? But if you like that sort of thing, and can get past a somewhat steep learning curve, this is a fun game where all the players are trying to stop the Bad Guys.

• I love the Arkam Horror tip! Thanks so much for turning me on to this cool -- and elusive -- game.

How new? I LOVE Apples to Apples, but it's been out for about 8-9 years now.

We like Pictureka, which I think just came out. And Cranium, which has been out a few years. And Mad Gab and Taboo.

I'm not sure about 'new', but I've enjoyed a few board games recently.

The first is "Ticket to Ride"—2-5 players attempt to create their own railroad tycoon across continental United States.

The second is "Mystery of the Abbey"—a nifty twist on the Clue whodunnit type of game.

The third is "Settlers of Catan"—Kind of similar to the first game in gameplay, but it much more complex. A great game, I really recommend the buy.

My family has had a blast with Balderdash, especially the second edition. It is basically a bluffing game. We always play it during holidays when there are lots of people to participate.

Also, we have recently discovered Settlers of Catan. This has become my favorite board game of all time. It is a strategy game where you collect resources based on dice roles and then build your settlements. Settlements are worth points and the first to 10 points wins. It is a bit more nerdy than the classic board games, but definitely not as nerdy as Dungeons and Dragons. Like the Nintendo Wii, it is girlfriend and grandpa friendly.

I'll admit that this is self-serving since I'm the creator of the game, but check out WIM at http://www.puzzazz.com/wim

According to the Museum, the "Stick" is the best game. You can find it anywhere or around at any shops. If you are really picky, you will find the right size and shape eventually.

Carcassonne is far from new, but is very fun, simple to pick up, and is surprisingly deep:

Agricola is new, more complicated, perhaps more of a gamer's game about farming:

Power Grid is another good game, where you try to build power plants to power as many homes as possible:

If you haven't played Settlers of Catan yet, it's pretty much mandatory. While I do like the others here more, almost everyone loves Catan.
