The daughter of Steve Irwin, Bindi Irwin appeared regularly in her father's tv shows and has taken up his calling of introducing people to animals. This is a litle more dangerous than your average tv show (as demonstrated by the picture) if she is influencable, but may be more appreciated, especially considering the main character is a girl.
She has a regular tv series, Bindi the Jungle Girl (amazon) and various other dvds out.


Meerkat Manor (amazon) is another great show I've been following for a few years, it follows the lives of a couple of tribes of Meerkats in the Kalahari Desert, and documents their lives with human-like reasoning, so people can relate.
This show was great, especially the first few seaons, but the producers have been known to modify the actual events to create a more compelling story through editing and filming different meerkats that they claim are the same ones. Also a few death references and a few other real-life situations exist, so it may not be suitable for all children, unsupervised.


If you're looking for fun japanese-animated drivel (in that there's no educational value but it's fun) then Kimba the White Lion (amazon) might be right for her. The animation is a bit old (1950) but the story is what inspired The Lion King, many say. Kimba speaks english to other humans and travelled once to Paris.

Lastly for a seasonal treat, I'd 100% recommend The Puppy Bowl (discovery), it runs simultaneously with the superbowl so you can watch it every year, and has a kitty half-time show.
