It doesn't appear to have been shelved, they refer to it here in this recent Reuters story, it could however be on hold while Dmitri Martin makes a movie... as reported.
The ratings have been solid, even beating American Idol on what night (in the all important 18-34 demo)

It's gotten an excellent reception so unless there's legal and contractual issues, which I doubt, they're probably just gearing up for a new round of episodes.

I think they must have run out of funny things. I was wondering just what I said when the show first came out. Don't get me wrong, its hilarious, but there are only a certain amount of jokes.

It's probably just on hiatus. It's probable they filmed very few episodes to test the waters and just ran out until they film some more. It's gotten an excellent reception so unless there's legal and contractual issues, which I doubt, they're probably just gearing up for a new round of episodes.
