I had less than favorable first impression of Jason Calacanis. I'd heard him several times on TWiT and then on Mahalo Daily when they were choosing a new host. On first impression, I thought he was a bit of a condescending prick.
The more I listened to him, however, the more I like him. Either I've become accustomed to his online mannerisms and turns of phrase or he's mellowed out a bit and became less abrasive, possibly both.
At this point, I hold him in a fairly positive light. I think my initial disdain was due to a difference in his personality and mine, not because he's a dick.

To be honest, I'm not a TWIT fanatic so I probably confuse him with a couple of the other TWIT regulars - (not Dvorak or british accent guy etc...)
Something along the lines of, "Is he the guy who Dvorak hates, or the guy with the Tesla, or that other guy who likes to do the Audible Commercials?"
Bottom line is he has Leo's seal of approval - and that's big cred in my book.

On tech shows, Jason can be pretty vocal, but holds up his end of any disagreement with good reasons. He's pretty passionate about some topics, notably Tesla and (to a lesser, more amusing extent) Audible. Other personalities, mainly those whose image relies on being skeptical - dare I say "cranky"?" - have, at times, portrayed Jason as being less than genuine. When they go head-to-head, Jason emerges as genuine. Point - Jason.
I signed up for his emails when he switched to that format from blogging. I liked his reasoning, and I like his emails. I even like the monthly reminder that I can unsubscribe - no one has ever done that before, in my experience. Point - Jason.
Finally, there's Mahalo Answers. I'm having fun. It's SO great to have reasoned interaction with people that can express themselves in discourse more extensive than can be printed on a bumper sticker. Point - Jason.
I don't know him, but I very much appreciate this venue and his contributions to the discussions listed above. I guess you'd have to put me on the "like" side of that polarized viewpoint.
Bonus credit: we both love our dogs and alternative energy.

Other than that, he's been a great help in the only time I had issue with something when Mahalo Answers was getting started, and I think he's got a great attitude towards the Tesla (puts his money where his mouth is) ..so yeah, a stand-up guy, I reckon.

What do you think of Jason Calacanis?
From what I hear, either you like Jason Calacanis or you hate him.
I was wondering what your opinions of him are. Whether you know him personally, met him once, or know him only from his online presence tell me what you think of him and why.

• I like the fact that you have an open mind on Jason. You didn't avoid him after your unfavorable first opinion on him.
I think you are in the minority because you went from hate to liking him. Most people either like or hate him and never change their opinion on him.

He seems like a legitimate guy online, and he's always been open to responding to questions he thinks he can answer, and asking questions on Mahalo Answers. I have not yet met him in real life, but I don't believe he's out to bite you or anything like that. Just like any entrepreneur, he wants to see Mahalo succeed!

I have noticed that. He has replied to answers in here pretty quickly and is very active in the Twitter community.

He's the Tesla guy. Does a hilarious Christopher Walken impersonation. Did it on the last TWiT.

I've met him and he's a great guy. He's passionate about what he does and he knows alot. I am extremely impressed with his resume and his new project Mahalo, and given the opportunity to work for him would be a great learning experience and opportunity for anyone. Two thumbs up!

I'v been listening TWIT for several years now and one of the best laugh out loud moments on that show is where Jason is pretending to do the Celebrity Reading of audible books. The way Leo seamlessly "Queued up the clip" for Jason, Ohh my god I nearly laughed out a lung. Not only is he a shrewd businessman, but he does some really good jokes on TWIT as well.
