We are in the middle of one of the worst recessions the US has ever seen...however Disney has $4billion to spend on Comic Books? :-)
Seriously though. I feel it is an important acquisition from Disney simply so they can improve their brand image amongst the 15 and over crowd. Disney right now is simply a child brand and has been trying to grow out of that demographic by providing for more teen shows on its TV channels and more dramas in movies. I feel with the acquisition of Marvel they can get into the Teen communities and finally gain some ground/recognition.
Its all about marketing in the end.....

Personally I know that people worry that Disney will make existing titles more kid friendly, however Disney will not want to alienate existing fans, so I am not expecting big changes in this.
The big change I expect is we might start to see more disney specific comics and graphic novels.

I vote no on this, but the Marvel people will get their long overdue payout.

Generally, the acquisition of a smaller media company by a larger one doesn't bode well for the properties of that company. Autonomy, creativity, and passion are often lost.
Looking forward to the Avenger movies.

I'm afraid that this will mean a change for bad in the Marvel Universe.
Disney has made very good stories and content, but they are way too different from Marvel, I'm afraid that they'll make that difference disappear.
And for the people that thinks that this is impossible that something like the Twitter joke "Namor will marry Ariel" it's impossible, you must remember kingdom hearts...

What are your thoughts on the Disney Marvel acquisition?
The Walt Disney Company announced its acquisition of Marvel Entertainment today for roughly $4 billion. It stated that partner contracts, like for the ''X-Men'', ''Spider-Man'' and ''Iron Man'' franchises, will stay in place.
What are your thoughts on this move? As a Disney or Marvel fan are you concerned? Happy?

A part of me died inside when I read this on Facebook. I'm really hoping Disney stays true to their word and doesn't ruin their comics or the movie franchises. Especially with Iron Man 2 coming up and the upcoming Avengers movie in 3 or 4 years.

It depends, if disney gives a fresh influx of addvertising and creative talent Marvel could benenefit. Personally I know that people worry that Disney will make existing titles more kid friendly, however Disney will not want to alienate existing fans, so I am not expecting big changes in this.

As a Marvel fan I would like to express my disappointment. I can foresee them damaging all the franchises they touch. I am no fan of the way Disney adapts things. The hidden dinger is that then now will have the rights to all the comic properties in the Marvel line up. I can also see them getting rid of a lot of talented artists and writers. I vote no on this, but the Marvel people will get their long overdue payout.

I haven't read comics or graphic novels for years but I have enjoyed the movies made from Marvel properties. I'm concerned about the move because Disney is not good at making movies. They have been rather good at purchasing and distributing movies, but there are only a few movies out of their studios that I have thought worthwhile for many years. Generally, the acquisition of a smaller media company by a larger one doesn't bode well for the properties of that company. Autonomy, creativity, and passion are often lost.

At first I couldn't believe it, but while more and more people started talking about this, I had to realize this was true. I'm afraid that this will mean a change for bad in the Marvel Universe.
