Security Now isn't for everyone, but I have learned more about technology and the internet from that podcast than anywhere else.
I haven't kept up as regularly with the Scientific American podcast, but I enjoyed it while I listened to it.
I will have to check out some of the other podcasts listed here, thanks for asking this question.

What are your favourite audio podcasts?
Always on the look out for new good ones. All types considered.
My faves right now include Collins and Herring, Adam and Joe, Phil and Phill, Selected Shorts, This American Life, The Moth Podcast, Stephen Fry's Podgrams, Escape Pod, You Look Nice Today, Variant Frequencies, Lake Woebegone, Radio Lab, SETI, New Yorker Fiction, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Friday Night Comedy, In Our Time, Berkeley Groks Science Show, Fly With Me, Tom Robinson introducing, Ted Talks, Philosophy Bites, Daily Source Code, Thinking Allowed.
And yes, I do actually listen to most episodes. I subscribe via Google Reader so I can choose whether to download. I do pass sometimes if the topic or guest doesn't interest me. I listen to podcasts about 90 minutes a day, on average.

Thanks for recommendations. I never rule anything out. I'll give almost any podcast a try if someone is raving enthusiastically about it. I say 'almost' because, you know, if it's about gardening tips for seniors or something I might decide to pass on that !

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Coverville (www.coverville.com), one of the earliest podcasts and still going strong. Here's a guy with a simple premise - a music show about cover tunes - that has kept him going for years now. He never strays far from the theme but always comes up with a spin to keep it interesting such as doing "cover stories" where he'll do nothing but cover songs from a single band. My favorite part might well be the "musically challenged" trivia segment at the end of many shows, which he often plays with his wife and son. Family friendly! Brian, the host, is a full time podcaster. This is not somebody who was already in the business and simply made a podcast out of his existing show, like so many NPR types of shows. This is one where just one guy managed to put something out with a high degree of consistency and quality, and I can't say enough good things about his contributions to the business.

Yup, I also subscribe to Coverville but I don't often listen, mainly because I have so much other stuff to listen to. I do have quite a backlog of Coverville shows to listen to. I'll probably burn them onto CDs and listen in the car. I agree with you that it's one of the best "home-made" podcasts out there, i.e. it's not an offshoot of a newspaper/magazine or radio show.
I also like the Pandora podcasts which are short and sweet. [Too bad we can no longer get Pandora in Taiwan but that's another story!]
