Both in Washington.
Both had significant number of earth quakes just a couple of days before eruption
Both had been dormant for significant lengths of time (over 100yrs and even with mini-eruptions, and the release small eruptions, was not believed that it would erupt to that degree until it was too late, as you can never know if it will happen the next day, or the next decade)
Both had steam eruptions prior, that did heat water sources (not as extreem as the movie)
Both had a change in pH/acidity in the natural water sources (though not as extreem as depicted in Dante's peak)
Both had indications of carbon dioxide poisoning in animals
Both had the ash 'rain' fall (Mt.St Helen covered 11 states)
thats all I can think of, I haven't seen that movie in about 7 years...
And as for a Pierce Brosnen look alike running around causing panic and screaming the sky is falling, that could have happened too, but I can't know for sure.... ;)
