Yes this is true that you can play regular DVD's on a blu ray player. In my opinion until they blu ray DVD's are more affordable you should wait. DVD's are so cheap now hat if your child scratches it you can just by another. If your child scratches the blu ray disc its not so cheap to replace. So unitl they are a little cheaper in price I would wait.

Should I upgrade from a DVD player to a blu ray player?
I have heard that blu ray disc are more scratch resistant and blu players will still play your old DVDs. Two big pluses considering I have an eight year old boy and a huge DVD library. Is this accurate?
