Japan
Japanese commercials are the best in Asia not only because they are funnier and cover more topics. Most important of all, they have big budget to produce quality and entertaining commercials for the lucrative local market. Japanese had started these trends since the late seventies or early eighties (MJ for Suzuki):

1. 1980 - MJ (Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough) Suzuki "Love" motorcycle

2. Younger Brad Pitts commercial for Edwin Jeans in Japan

3. Leonardo Dicaprio - Toyota Hybrid commercial

4. Kiefer Sutherland - Calorie Mate Commercial

5. 2007- Madonna - ARIAKE commercial "Think Family"

They are able to engage the services of many American movie stars for their commecials simply because these hollywood stars are able to sell their products or services better than the their local entertainers.

Thailand
Outside Japan, Thailand commericals will be the funniest in Asia.
Check out this bank robbers commercial from Thailand:

and Thailand Bubble gum commercial:

I mentioned Tommy Lee Jones in a question I asked earlier.
He is the king of American stars doing commercials in Japan right now.

This is one of my favorites (mostly because it's funny even without subtitles).

It is a very interesting phenomenon. Stars like Tommy do it because they can make some money, have fun, and not worry about ruining their "image" in their prime movie markets.

And by the way, the Sumo wrestler in your example is Musashimaru, an American Samoan former Yokozuna (the higest class of sumo)

You get the idea

On this one, you have to love how a star can get paid to say not a single word, while simply sticking a coin in a meter

Correction: He says something at the very end but I can't make it out. Is it "garf"?

Your welcome. Just do a search for "Tommy Lee Japan" on YouTube and you will get a list a mile long. Most are quite entertaining. Not sure where the no expression quiet super-hero Tommy character came from, but it beats most of the "local" commercials.

Thanks!
I live in Tokyo, which is how I know about the ones on my list.
But I hadn't seen this one. I do however enjoy the particular brand of Chuhai being advertised on a fairly regular basis.

Lol. I love Ben Stiller's facial expressions. This one's a winner, because they are overdubbing Japanese when he talks... but he's acting out the japanese pronunciation. Awesome.

I think those commercials are funny because the celebs look out of place. Why don't Japanese actors do commercials for the states?

I think they are funny because Japanese commercials are kind of surreal and celebs play along. It is like that "I know you know we know" thing. I love it.

I think the answer is that Japanese actors simply aren't well known in the states. But American movie stars are known in Japan.
