Nice job! You made a lot of great points within your article, and it is refreshing to see that in entertainment news. I think you did a good job staying on topic, which is difficult to do. I have a few suggestions:
1. It is a little lengthy. I would recommend shorter articles for the future. The shorter it is, the more likely it is to hold people's attention all the way through, which is key in getting your point across. I doubt some of the authors of other comments above mine actually read the entire thing.
2. "VMA’s" should be "VMAs." The apostrophe is not necessary.
3. Taylor Swift's name is misspelled on the 19th line of text. Don't forget to proofread! :)

The article was not bad for your first time out. I feel where you were coming from on the TI and Lil Wayne side of things but we have artists out there who have and will do much worse than a gun charge or being a gang member. In the end if that artist is hot the albums will be sold. Keep building your craft and I look forward to reading your next article.

T.I. was also nominated. Currently, T.I. is in jail for illegally purchasing several machine guns and silencers. When T.I. was announced as a winner the crowd cheered and roared with enthusiasm for the rapper who “couldn’t be with us tonight.” Eventually the crowd stood to their feet in a prolonged ovation. Granted, Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift’s speech was both incredibly rude and disrespectful, but it was absolutely appalling at how loving the crowd was towards T.I., a convicted felon.

E.g. it is easier to critique a universally bad unimportant action.
As a result, your article spends too much time defending Kayne West's life as opposed to the uproar caused by his actions as opposed to things that should have long-term consequences like T.I.'s imprisonment.
Also, you took president Obama's comments in response to a direct question about what he thought about Kayne interrupting the speech, when it is pretty clear Obama wouldn't have been applauding T.I.'s absence from the VMA.

Just as I've indicated in the comment I've left in that article...What happened there is utterly wrong no matter how you look at it. But then again, Mr. West apologized and Ms. Swift accepted. Let's just be happy that she won and that she took the whole incident very gracefully. As for Mr. West, give him a little slack. As the saying goes, everybody deserves a second chance. Don't you think? Peace!

When presenting an opinion piece where you are essentially arguing something, be sure you are arguing your arguments while doing it to make sure you are proving your points correctly (make sense?). For instance, you write "Yet, here is an artist who wrote the song 'Roses,' a bedside account of his experience when his grandmother was hospitalized." How or why does this prove he is better than T.I. who wrote the song "Dead and Gone" which is more heartfelt than his typical rap and is about a friend who was killed in a shooting that T.I. and his crew became caught up in and could be interpreted as a "lesson learned" song for T.I.? Another thing, you say "Kanye is one of the few artists we have today who relies on music, not image or a train wreck public life, to sell albums." Well, what is Lil Wayne doing? He obviously doesn't care about his image and relies on his music (whether it is positive or not) and is able to sell albums.
The article is good, as I said, I just think it is hard for me to truly see your point of view when I personally see conflicts with what you have written. (Which I guess is normal with opinion pieces.) You remained fairly clear on the opinion you were presenting and didn't stray too far from the topic.

I know that this is something a LOT of people will answer to and to be honest with all of you I think what Kanye pulled off was once again a typical "Kanye move " !
Not only did he messed up the moment for a 19 yr old that won her first price but he managed to pull all of the attention to himself.
If you think about it everybody talks about him -
even the President
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOPcJtMaI-U
- and nobody mentions him or Tyler or Beyonce' other then " this poor Woman " or 2 what she did was great "
We all help him to get what he had intentions for in the first place.
With his odd ways of presenting himself in public events get's him attention no matter if its bad or good.
We have a Entertainer here in Germany that does the same thing he does.
When he wins a Award he does not touch it because he claims its bad yuyu to have contact with a Award ( nuts ) or he interrupts interviews to state his opinion even if nobody is asking for his view.
I guess Kanye is at a point of his Music where he finally noticed that he cant sing and the only way to sell his records is by attention in any way.
I loved his first couple of songs and also like the last one very much but his way of getting attention is killing the sexy big time !
I dont get it why he had to run up and be rude like this - its not like he will never be interviewed again and he would have had the chance to speak his opinion without messing up the moment for somebody else and put Beyonce into the spotlight ( she must have been embarrassed ) !
I guess that is something Attention Junkies do !

It is interesting how much blaspheme and hatred this artist is recieving for his mure act of stupidity, however, society needs to open their eyes and voice thier opinions on the true descrepencies that involve our present role models. For example, the Disney Channel is clearly a recommended entertainment industry for our young children, in fact, this company host several television shows that are intended for a very young audience. Nonetheless, actors (role models) such as, Lindsey Lohan, who has repedetedly been labeled as an "alcoholic" or Brittany Spears who has been labeled as a "troubled Pop-Star" and her sister Jamie Lynn Spears (Zoey 101) has shown our young generation that having a child at age 16 is ok. These are just a few examples of 'famous entertainers' that have had an influence on our past, present and future generations. Yet, their critisism is limited and actions are overlooked by society.
In this, Kayne West may definitly need to do a self evaluation in regards to his ethics and beliefs when it involves his opinions, but in most he needs to understand and apply the approiate times and places his opinions should be discussed.
The article in place is a perfect example of the simple faults of human kind. No one man/woman is perfect and some may end up with addictions, incarcerated or even pregnant. Being a pop-artist or entertainer does not make a person better than the average man who works a 9 - 5, in fact, society needs to focus thier negative energies on their everyday people, such as, teachers, psychologist, lawyers; do they not have a certain degree of influence on our children as well?
Kayne West may or may not truely regret his actions and his poor choice of words, but calling him names and puting him down is merely saying that his influence has no affect on todays society. If this were truely the case, would you be reading this article and placing your own inner opinions of this man? Lets not forget that human is human no matter the shape, color or size.....

The main point that everyone is missing is the type of people these are. Celebrities. When they are practicing their trade of singing or acting, they are mostly palatable. When they are doing anything else, they are so self absorbed and wrapped up in themselves that every moment becomes a competition for a chance to promote (what else) ME. This idiot is promoting himself, 24/7. He promotes himself by writing and performing sensitive songs about his grandmother and by making "sensitive" remarks about gays (how noble). His "apology" was nothing of the kind. I saw Taylor on The View and guess what? The sensitive one has still made no attempt to contact her by phone, email, in person, nothing. His "apology" was all about him competing for the spotlight. In his mind, he is the only one who is important. Really. And the other Celebrities? Guess what they were thinking of? Same thing--themselves. Competing for face time in the media.

In our world, no ones perfect. Me, you, and anyone who's actually reading this now. In every action we make, there's a particular result to it. Like in your examples, T.I. was convicted of illegal purchase of firearms, where is he right now? He's in jail right? Lil Wayne, he's a member of a gang who's involved in lots of crimes, but are you sure that everyone actually likes Lil Wayne? Lots of people hates him too if you're not aware of it...
Now, let's go to what happened in VMAs... Kanye West went up the stage and embarrassed a fellow celebrity... so what do you expect other celebrities watching the show would do? Be happy with what Kayne did? Of course being a celebrity themselves, they do not want how a fellow celebrity being crushed and embarrassed right in front of them, and of course they don't want this to happen to themselves too.
Why celebrities not bash T.I. instead? T.I. didn't do anything mean to them nor to the people their connected with. Maybe if T.I. has said or did mean things towards another celebrity, then this case will be different. Why did they applauded when T.I. won? Because of course they'd rather pick him over Kanye.
Why celebrities haven't booed Wayne while performing at VMA though he's a bad person? Because he's performing and as a sign of respect to the one on stage, you would show your support to that person.
No matter how good Kanye is to his mother, to his grandmother or to other kids out there, he has still done something totally wrong... and because he bashed a celebrity, other celebrities who has seen themselves what happened will surely hate him for it.

There is a place and time to stand up and a time to shut up. The VMA's was the time for Kayne to shutup. This is not his first time to make a scene at the VMA's and this is why the outrage has gone over the top. Just like Kayne's ego. I do understand that we should not celebrate convicted gun felons or gang members but I did not see any of TI's crew or the local Crips walk on stage, grab a mic from someone to profess their crew or gang did the best score or drive by in the history of scores or drive bys. It was supposed to be a historic moment as when can you ever remember a country artist getting anything on MTV for anything. If Kayne wanted to speak his mind, Taylor Swifts moment in the spotlight was not it. But he did make her into an mainstream artist because of the incident so any bump in record sales could be thanks to Kayne. Kayne should be banned from performing, attending or receiving any awards from MTV for a while after this. They can keep playing the videos but that should be about it for a long while. The article was not bad for your first time out. I feel where you were coming from on the TI and Lil Wayne side of things but we have artists out there who have and will do much worse than a gun charge or being a gang member. Interesting article, in order to construct a better argument you might have devoted more time to the motivations behind the celebrities interest in crticizing something superficial. E.g. it is easier to critique a universally bad unimportant action.
As a result, your article spends too much time defending Kayne West's life as opposed to the uproar caused by his actions as opposed to things that should have long-term consequences like T.I.'s imprisonment.

The article was well written style wise but I just don't agree about Kanye. He deserves to feel the backlash from what he did. He may support some worthy causes that lead to positive changes in some people's lives like you mentioned in the article but he has got to learn how you can act in public and what is inappropriate. He acts like a child always pushing the boundaries and offending everyone around him. He has no filter and odes or says what ever he wants but you can't act like that. There are social rules that we must all abide and he ignores this. I'm glad stars are speaking their mind about this incident because they need to show him that it is not acceptable. It is the only way he is going to learn. Thank goodness that everyone is saying enough is enough. I don't like him. Ever since his statement about how George Bush hates black people I have thought he was ignorant and childish. I hope he is shunned from the industry for this. He showed his true colors. How did he not know that was the wrong thing to do? I wish he would have tried to interrupt someone who would have punched him out for taking the microphone away from them. I hope he never wins another award and I hope his album sales suffer from this. I hope it also teaches others to respect those around us. I agree that TI shouldn't be revered for his actions. I don't condone his behavior either. I'm glad you pointed that out.

Good article. I think it presents a different view of a subject that has been pretty much one-sided. However, what exactly do celebrities need perspective on? That regardless of how an artist behaves, you should respect them for their music? Or celebrities need to focus on more important things, like politics or their image outside of music? When presenting an opinion piece where you are essentially arguing something, be sure you are arguing your arguments while doing it to make sure you are proving your points correctly (make sense?). For instance, you write "Yet, here is an artist who wrote the song 'Roses,' a bedside account of his experience when his grandmother was hospitalized." First, I would like to input that what Kayne did to "Taylor Swift" was indeed an act of selfishness and disrespect. In saying that, it is important for the community to realize and understand that Kayne is none the less 'human'. As in society, people make mistakes on a daily basis and most dont have to have a million dollar record label.. It is in hopes of society that Kayne 'should be' a remarkable role model for past, present and future generations, but unfortunatelty he has soley built himself a reputation far beyond the common expectation. He has set himself up for the blasheme and crude name badgering. In this, he has managed to sabotoge his own career bacause of his persistance to voice his opinion. It is also important to note the credibility of this artist and what influence he has on society. If this incident with 'Taylor Swift' had never happened, would society be so quick to judge a man who has encouraged pro-longed education or same sex marriage? If it had been another popular pop artist making this same mistake, would the result be any different? It is interesting how much blaspheme and hatred this artist is recieving for his mure act of stupidity, however, society needs to open their eyes and voice thier opinions on the true descrepencies that involve our present role models.
No matter how good Kanye is to his mother, to his grandmother or to other kids out there, he has still done something totally wrong... and because he bashed a celebrity, other celebrities who has seen themselves what happened will surely hate him for it.

personal opinion I feel that Kayne was way out of place by doing what he did. I do not feel that he is being treated unfairly so to speak either. I do feel this though. I think when we get to witness a celebrity doing something that they feel would be better hidden it leaves a huge impact on us and maybe even a new view of them as a person. There have been many celebrities that have gone to jail, prison and are now felons but I can reasure you that we did not get to witness most of the crimes and had we gotten to, we might have a different feeling about them as well. Kayne did apologize through a phone call and she did except !!
