In poker, what is the opposite of "table stakes?"

Suppose a player raised so that the only other player left, did not have enough money to call, and had to offer something (like a watch) to cover the bet. What is that called?

That is called "movie poker." In real poker, no one can be forced out of a hand for not having enough chips on the table. The person can call for the total amount of chips he or she had before the hand started. No player can ever add chips, or anything else of value, to the table once the hand begins.

Now that is interesting. So this never happens except in the movies. Rats! That really hurt's a book I'm writing. Any suggestions? (other than abandoning 36,000 words). These are kids at a table so they might think that movie poker is real poker.

Just make it clear in other details and/or conversations during the game that they learned how to play poker from watching movies.

Another "movie poker" maneuver is to say, "I call your hundred, and raise you another hundred." In real poker, once you say, "I call," you forfeit your ability to raise.

That's a good idea.
