If I can't watch all 60 hours' worth of episodes, which are the essential ones I must see to follow the story & b/c they're simply the best?
Yeah, I'm a later comer to Battlestar Galactica. Only just saw the pilot miniseries. I don't have much time for TV watching (I'm a societal oddball in that regard), so if I wanted to watch only the best of the best episodes and be able to follow all the major storylines well enough, I'd love it if someone point me to an abridged episode guide -- one that won't ruin it for me with spoilers and detailed plotlines -- or give me their recommended condensed 4 season's worth of must-see episodes.

I know this is not the answer you want to hear. . .but. . . just start at the beginning and watch them in order. If it takes you a year or 2 to watch the whole series, so what. I have been watching them (starting w/miniseries) for a few months and have 15 episodes to go. This has been , by far, the most amazing TV experience of my life. Better than the Sopranos and The Wire.
Also- keep in mind that the episodes are only about 42 minutes each, not a full hour. There! I just gave you back 30% of your time.

I second this! I understand not having much time for TV, most of it is a tragic waste of time, but BSG is NOT ordinary TV. It's a worthwhile investment.

I don't see any reason why you need to get to the end of the series. Why not just watch them in order?
