Google's calculator says there are 231 cubic inches in a gallon. I measured my milk gallon as well and got a height of approximately 8.4 inches with sides of 5.25 inches, and 8.4 x 5.25 x 5.25 is approximately 231 cubic inches. I am going to assume that all parts of the gallon can be filled with jolly ranchers. If there is a handle that cannot be filled with candy, you'll need to subtract it.

I can't find exact dimensions for a jolly rancher, so if you have one, you can measure it and fit it to the formula better. Based on pictures, I believe the candy is 1" x .5" x .5" + a wrapper that add .5" on two sides. Assuming that the wrapper will do some nestling with other wrappers, I think we can say the volume needed for the wrapped jolly rancher is in the range ((1.25" to 1.5") x .5" x .5" = (.3125 to .375) cubic inches. Therefore, using these approximate dimensions, in the range (616 to 739) jolly ranchers will fit into a gallon jug.

There are approximately 126 servings of 3 jolly ranchers in a 5 lb. bag, which means there are 378 pieces per bag. So you will need almost 2 bags to fill a gallon jug.
