It's disappointingly simple - not even a proper magician illusionist trick, but mainly camera work & editing. Also, the people in the swimming pool are not casual onlookers who happened to be there, they are part of the gimmick, too.

but it got replaced by an Amazon add... I guess it was Criss who wanished it out-of-existence... or, perhaps, it was his PR team.

Yes, it's something of that nature.
What I think is important here, is to understand that this is a viral promotion video, and not a documentary footage of a genuine (trick) performance.

He's walking on the tops of palls which are about half a meter apart, and not necessarily as broad as the ones in my sketch. It would still be a fine balancing act, even if these palls were not submerged under water.
