He was on the Today show yesterday morning and made the rounds about his move to the Obama admin.

I could find no news of his actual death. However, I did find an NPR article from last week, which would have been after the show was filmed, that talked of Kal Penn in the present tense. If he were dead, there would be at least one obituary online.

I'm certain that it is just the character who is dead.

I haven't heard anything about Kal Penn's death, and it would have been in the news already if it were true, since the episodes have to be filmed in advance (i.e. it wouldn't be breaking news).

Also, I Googled his name (regular search and News) and looked on wikipedia and nothing came up to suggest that that he actually died.

I don't think Fox would have made a page for the character if Kal Penn were actually dead. That would just be messed up.

Rest easy Kal Penn fans, he is not dead just his character. He actually quit the show to move to bigger and better things.

"Kal Penn is jumping from one House to another, having recently accepted a position as the associate director for the White House office of public liaison. I don't really know what that means, but apparently he'll be working with real people through various charities and organizations, and representing President Obama while doing it."
