The advertising for it was perfect.
The low budget it was made with was genius.
The movie without the hype was poor.
The Blair Thumb, however, was phenomenal!

I enjoyed the backstory and was pulled in to the actual movie. I think some of the acting (in watching in multiple times) is not the best (understatement), but it added to the "realness" of it. I'm glad I was warned about the shaky-cam nature... I would have been nauseous if I were sitting too close to the screen.
Great stuff!

The build up and advertising was amazing for this movie, however I don't think the film itself was that scary. Oh, and the follow up was just awful!
I think that Cannibal Holocaust was a much better film in this genre.

I don't, it really became famous as result of rumors that the movie was something that actually happened. Other than that it wasn't all that scary.

I think alot of people would agree with you on that. I remember at the time, it caused quite a stir. Also, you know it is a successful story if the lines between whether it was real or scripted become blurred (as they did with this one).

I think it's one of the best horror films I've ever seen. The movie stuck with me for DAYS afterwards... and continues to haunt me (sorry for the pun). I enjoyed the backstory and was pulled in to the actual movie. I think some of the acting (in watching in multiple times) is not the best (understatement), but it added to the "realness" of it.
