The Master's Travels
Section Note:
Koschei, a wise and well-traveled Time Lord also known as the Magistrate (q.v. The Infinity Doctors), a member of the infamous Deca (Divided Loyalties) and an old friend of the Doctor, leaves Gallifrey with a traveling companion, Ailla (in reality a Gallifreyan spy). In The Dark Path he becomes the Master we know.
The Infinity Doctors
Companions: (Larna)
Location:
Gallifrey, c.3,500,017,893 BC and the Needle, distant future
Notes:
Koschei, also known as the Magistrate, is a good man and lifelong friend of the Doctor; both are the only members of the High Council under 2000 years of age.
Divided Loyalties
Companions: First Doctor
Location:
Gallifrey and The Toymaker`s Realm
Notes:
Koschei is still a member of the Deca on Gallifrey possibly no longer the Gallifreyan Magistrate, hence the lack of referral to that august title. He is likely already in the incarnation represented on television by Roger Delgado, as the Second Doctor recognizes him (The Dark Path) and that book features the Delgado incarnation (according to the novel's cover).
The Dark Path: From the Cutting Room Floor
Companions: Second Doctor
Notes:
Some excerpts from The Dark Path which obviously take place within that story.
The Dark Path
Companions: Second Doctor
Location:
Darkheart, c.3375
Notes:
The misguided Koschei loses control, is betrayed by the Doctor and Ailla, and turns to evil. He takes up the title of Master at the end of this novel.
Terror of the Autons (4 episodes)
Companions: Third Doctor
Notes:
The Master comes to Earth for the first time (at least as far as we know; he could very well have done it before). This is the first time the Third Doctor encounters him in this persona.

The Claws of Axos (4 episodes)

Companions: Third Doctor
The Face of the Enemy
Companions: Third Doctor
Location:
UNIT HQ, u.1971 (Nov)
The Sea Devils (6 episodes)

Given that the Doctor embarks on his visit to the Master as a result of the latter’s actions in The Face of the Enemy, this adventure must take place soon (if not immediately) afterwards.
The Quantum Archangel
Companions: Sixth Doctor
Location:
London, Midnight Cathedral, 2003 (Aug)
Notes:
Shortly before 'The Time Monster', the Master lies low on Earth after a double-cross by the alien Voord. During this time he insinuates himself into the TOMTIT project.

Companions: Third Doctor
Masters of Terror
Companions: Third Doctor
Notes:
The Master's 'next' plan involves Draconia (p.81).

Frontier in Space (6 episodes)
Companions: Third Doctor

Companions: Third Doctor
Location:
Xanthos; Culverton, u.1973 (Jul)
Legacy of the Daleks
Companions: Eighth Doctor
Location:
London 2199 & 2200
Old Scores
Companions: Third Doctor
Notes:
This adventure is set immediately after The Green Death
A Stone of the Heart
Companions: The Master (Delgado)
Notes:
Set some considerable time after Frontier in Space and long before The Deadly Assassin
The Deadly Assassin (4 episodes)
Companions: Fourth Doctor
Location:
Gallifrey
Notes:
The Master's final incarnation (the Delgado persona) is now decaying; the Master is unable to regenerate and yet is unwilling to give up. He comes to Gallifrey to trap the Doctor, to take possession of his form.
The Keeper of Traken (4 episodes)
Companions: Fourth Doctor
Location:
Traken, Metulla Orionsis, 1981
Notes:
Still in a state of decay, the Master comes to Traken to take possession of the Source. Using the Source, he is able to hijack the body of Consul Tremas, Nyssa's father; now in this guise (that of actor Anthony Ainley) he proceeds into the universe in his TARDIS.
Logopolis (4 episodes)
Companions: Fourth Doctor
Location:
Logopolis and England, 1981
Notes:
The Master attempts to take possession of Logopolis.
Castrovalva (4 episodes)
Companions: Fifth Doctor
Location:
Castrovalva
Notes:
Having failed at the Pharos Project on Earth following his battle with the Doctor at Logopolis, the Master is trapped in Castrovalva.
Time-Flight (4 episodes)
Companions: Fifth Doctor
Location:
London 1982 and Prehistoric Earth
Notes:
Freed from Castrovalva, the Master ends up in the distant past of Earth.

Planet of Fire (4 episodes)
Companions: Fifth Doctor
Location:
Lanzarote, Spain, 1984; Sarn
Notes:
The Master has escaped from 1666 England and headed directly to Sarn.
Unrecorded Adventures
Needing the services of the Master, Borusa and the Time Lords use the Time Scoop to retrieve the Master out of his numismaton prison on Sarn and bring him to Gallifrey…
The Five Doctors (1 90-min episode)
Companions: Fifth Doctor (plus 1, 2, 3)
Location:
Gallifrey
Notes:
We propose that The Five Doctors takes place out of the regular story order we know so well as it relates to the Master's continuity. This explains two things: first, the Master's escape from the numismaton gas in Planet of Fire (the Time Lords, seeing need for the Master, pull him out of the fire and bring him to Gallifrey) and second, the absence of reference to Kamelion in The Five Doctors (or any attempt by the Master to take possession of him again) suggesting that by this time Kamelion is already destroyed. Since the Master is not brought to trial by Rassilon, but instead freed at the end of The Five Doctors, we assume that he was returned to his own TARDIS and continues unabated.
A Town Called Eternity
Companions: Sixth Doctor
Location:
California, c.1885
The Mark of the Rani (2 45-min episodes)
Companions: Sixth Doctor
Location:
Northern England, 1830
Notes:
The Master is trapped in the Rani's TARDIS; obviously they are able to break fee and escape.
The Ultimate Foe (2 episodes)
Companions: Sixth Doctor
Location:
The Matrix
Notes:
Glitz is trapped with the Master; shortly thereafter they part company.
The Quantum Archangel
Companions: Sixth Doctor
Location:
London, Midnight Cathedral, 2003 (Aug)
Notes:
Shortly after being trapped in the Limbo Atrophier in The Ultimate Foe, the Master is almost killed by the Krotons, his Trakenite body almost shredded - we catch up with him just after this event here. The Master loses the last sparks of the Source of Traken, and renews his Gallifreyan-Trakenite hybrid body again using the power of the Lux Aeterna (the energy lattice that underpins the entire multiverse acting as a limitless food source for the Chronovores). Apparently he is well healed to continue unabated in Business Unusual.
Business Unusual
Companions: Sixth Doctor
Location:
Sussex, July 1989
Notes:
End of story with Usurians begins this adventure
Survival (3 episodes)
Companions: Seventh Doctor
Location:
Perivale, 1989; Cheetah Planet
Dust Breeding
Companions: Seventh Doctor
Location:
Duchamp 331, c.4259; Oslo, 20th century
Notes:
Following the events on the Cheetah Planet, the Master wandered for a time. He attempted to take possession of the Warp Core and failed, shredding his Trakenite body. He has now reverted to the decaying form he held in The Deadly Assassin and The Keeper of Traken (played once again by Geoffrey Beevers in the audio.)
Unrecorded Adventures
The Master wanders aimlessly with his decaying body until he encounters the Tzun Confederacy. The Tzun are able to give new life to the stolen body of Tremas, reinvigorating the Master, returning him to normal.
First Frontier
Companions: Seventh Doctor
Location:
New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, the Stormblade R`Shal, 1957 (Oct)
Notes:
As a byproduct of the Tzun Confederacy's manipulations, the Master is able to regenerate his cells; he regenreations into a new form (as portrayed in the 1996 TV movie by Gordon Tipple)
Happy Endings
Companions: Seventh Doctor
Notes:
The Master is in the Tipple persona, ostensibly his 15th incarnation (the normal 13, plus the body of Tremas… not including the decaying half-body from the end of his 13th life and Tremas' own degeneration.)
Doctor Who: The Movie
Companions: Eighth Doctor
Location:
San Francisco, California, 1999
Notes:
The Master is sentenced to death by the Daleks, who destroy the body given him by the Tzun. He is now a form of jellied energy, which the Doctor comes to collect at the behest of President Romana and the CIA (see Lungbarrow). The Master's energy form escapes and takes over the body of Bruce, a San Francisco paramedic, on December 31, 1999. After battling the Doctor in his new form, the Master is caught in the Eye of Harmony, perhaps trapped there for eternity... but of course, he later escapes.
Unrecorded Adventures
For reasons unknown, the Master is able to escape the cataclysmic annihilation of Gallifrey (The Ancestor Cell) as one of the "four" survivors (ostensibly the Doctor, the Master, Iris Wildthyme and a yet-unknown fourth…) His days of reckless meandering are over and the Master begins to look back upon his life with reflection. Coming into possession of a new body, he visits Earth...
The Adventuress of Henrietta Street
Companions: Eighth Doctor
Location:
London, Cambridge, Manchester, Paris, Calais, Hispaniola, Brighton, St Belique 1782 Feb – 1783 Feb
Notes:
The Master, who chooses not to identify himself (yet wears a striking rosette on his lapel) encounters the Doctor, who does not recognize him. This curious "man with a rosette" tells the Doctor that their times have come and gone, and now Sabbath is the future. Are there more days of villainy ahead for the Master? Only time will tell...

Well I'm not sure about the old Doctor Who series, but the Master only appears in the final 3 episodes of Season 3 of the new series, Utopia, The Sound of Drums and Last of the Time Lords. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8b/Master_with_laser_screwdriver.png
