Michael and Walt left the island first, when Michael helped Ben escape, the "others" gave him a boat and cooardinates for leaving the island. However, they never told anyone that they were survivors of Oceanic 815.

Later, on a helicopter flown by Frank, Desmond, Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sun, Sayid, and Aaron (Claire's baby) get off the island. Sawyer was also on the helicopter to begin with, but jumps off to lighten the load so it doesn't crash. Sawyer swims back to the island.

The helicopter does later crash when the island "moves", and they are rescued in the ocean by Penny Widmore. Desmond and Frank stay on Penny's boat, and the other six go off on a raft to make it look like they are the only survivors of flight 815. They are later referred to as the "Oceanic Six".

So, in actuality 8 people from the plane crash leave (Michael, Walt, Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sun, Sayid, and Aaron. In addition, Frank the helicopter pilot and Desmond who crashed on the island three years earlier leave as well.
