Bret Michaels was performing at the Tony Awards for two main reasons.

1. To start, he has been the focus of three popular VH1 reality shows. These were "Rock of Love (w/ Bret Michaels)", "Rock of Love 2" and "Rock of Love Bus".

2. Also, he's the lead singer of the popular band "Poison" which has had many top hits on the billboard charts. Arguably, their most famous song was "Every Rose has Its Thorn". The relevance for Poison playing at the Tony Awards other than Bret's recent re-emergence to fame on VH1 is that they've released three albums in the past year and a half.

3. Poison - Box Set (Collector's Edition) (2009)
