Are these the 2008 Oscars or the 2009 Oscars?

I'm kinda confused especially when looking into the history, what were watching today, will they be forever remembered as the '09 Oscars or the '08?

These are the 2009 Oscars. It can also be referred to as the 81st Annual Academy Awards. The 2009 Oscars honor the films that were released in the year before, so these awards are honoring the movies released in 2008.
