''Terminator'' is a name that is well known, and therefore there was huge expectation of revenue purely on that name alone. However, as Schwarzenegger was not part of the cast, they missed a crucial element.

'Salvation' wasn't a bad movie, and it finally made $371,321,895 worldwide in theaters only (there's going to be much more income when DVD and Blu-Ray sales come in, AND don't forget the income from the accompanying game). So, in the end they have made money on the movie, and the original budget was well spent.
