What is a good Spam Filter?

I'm looking for a good spam filter, but don't want to pay a fortune for it. Any suggestions?

The best spam filter I've used is Gmail, which of course is free. If you're an Outlook user, you can access Gmail using both POP3 and IMAP protocols. The obvious downside is that you have to have a Gmail account. You can import your existing email into Gail, but I've had mixed luck filtering my external email using Gmail's built-in spam protection.

I have to agree that gmail is an excellent spam filter. Maybe you can get a forwarding service so your email can get to gmail.

Can't beat Gmail, especially since it allows you to use any email address as long as you can prove it is yours. I have a business on the side and this lets me email my customers using my @mybusiness.com email address instead of Gmail.

This doesn't work perfectly of course, since some email clients will understand that the email did start at Gmail and will say something like "sent by joe@gmail.com on behalf of joe@mycompany.com" but still beats having to run your own spam catcher.

I assume your asking because you host your own email servers?
Gmail definitely has excellent spam filters, part of that is because they have a lot of users can and are able to use user reported spam data to filter out new kinds of spam. If you have your own domain (ie dot com, net, org, etc, I highly recommend Google Apps:
http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/editions.html
(Click Get Started Under Standard Edition [free])
That gives you all the goodness of Gmail but still be able to have your own email address. And if you dont have a domain, you can easily register one for like $10/year.

That is probably the best anti-spam I would recommend, because Google knows more about spam than the average desktop spam filter software.
