Can I set Outlook 2007 to autocomplete from contacts?

in the full version of Outlook 2007 (not outlook express), I would like to be able to have it autocomplete as I type an email address in the "To" field, where it is autocompleting from my contacts list or address book (not from the nickname list).

You can populate the auto complete with all your Contacts' details by
selecting them all (in the Contacts Folder) and creating an email addressed
to them. Then delete the email without sending it.

This should work by default. If it doesn't, it means that your Outlook.nk2 file is corrupted.

Simple measure: search the file Outlook.nk2 and delete it (it might be hidden, be sure that you can see all files). After that, reopen Outlook, it should work now.

Extreme measure: reinstall.

I don't want it to autocomplete from the .nk2 file. I want to autocomplete from the contacts in my address book.

Press CTRL+K.

Ctrl+K is a shortcut for the "Check Names" button, also on the toolbar when you're composing a message. Check names will look at the characters you've typed so far and compare them to your address book entries. If there's only one match it completes the entry. If there's more than one match then it presents a list for you to choose from. And the list will not include items from the nickname list. But the name you just entered will get added to the nickname list so the next time you use it, it should be there.

To get everyone in your contact folder into the nickname cache, do
this; Put everyone into the TO: line and then press Alt+K to
resolve the names. Then delete that email. This should work.

I agree with this post. Outlook 2007's autocomplete feature only works for contacts that you've sent emails to before. So if you "pretend" to send an email to all of your contacts, then the autocomplete should work for those contacts in the future. I know this is frustrating. It doesn't make any sense to me why it doesn't just autocomplete from your contacts list, but who knows.

You can try the steps and utility listed in this article by the How-to Geek to learn how to import your contacts into your N2K file. Other than that, no, I don't think it is possible to be able to autocomplete from your address book.
