No, it would not fit my personal needs, although I like the look of the car.

It is really just a variant or updated version of the GEM by the same company. A newspaper article from last summer said:

"A 10-year old Chrysler company, GEM has over 36,000 neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) on the road worldwide used by local, state and national government agencies, and on resorts, master planned communities, and university, medical and corporate campuses."

That about sums up the market for both GEM and PeaPod, except that the government customers won't want PeaPods because of the iPod link.

Apparently they are quite good at what they do and are economical. They just don't have the necessary highway ability that most of the people in the country absolutely require.

That price @25mph? No. @40mph and less than 10k? Most assuredly.

I think it's targeted at people living in retirement communities, or other self contained environments. The typical environment for golf carts. I suppose the benefit would be that you could also tool into town and pick-up groceries etc.

There is a market for small electric cars - parks, campus security and gated communities. These cars are available already http://www.zenncars.com/

Aren't Segway's more appropriate for those applications? They don't go quite as fast, but they are more versatile.

In my opinion this is a toy - for wealthy grown ups.

It is very interesting looking but it seems that it has only slightly more versatility than a scooter with a side car. All due credit for the design effort but the price tag for the product is a miss match for the general public.

Didn't realize it was solar, now this makes a difference and explains the price tag to some extent.

A scooter with a sidecar is much more versatile. You can drive one of those from town to town.

Price is too high for what you get.
Here in Michigan that would be a seasonal toy. Like a motercycle. Nice but not practical. I'd rather have my old Yugo.

So, this is what the car companies are spending R+D budgets on... wow, no wonder they are in such financial trouble.

Even for specialty markets this is impractical.

The PeaPod looks like it could fit four people!
That's too big of a car for me.
I like to ride solo in my Roach Mobile!

That car is a joke? right?
Why does everyone feel they have to buy NEW to be green?
The ultimate green is buying used!

That is not true if your old used vehicle guzzles gas. If you have modified it to run on ethanol, or if it is a diesel and you use biodiesel, then you have a point.

I would SO buy this car. My commute is about 10 miles and would LOVE to find an efficient car.

I'm looking forward to the air compression cars - the best in efficiency!

Bring it on!

That 10 mile drive has to be on 35mph or less roads. As for the nutty Frenchman's air car, it's been in and out the news for years. I'll believe it when I see it. No, that's not true, I won't believe it even if I do see it.

I see this as a Manhattan car. Only useful in a place like Manhattan, or Waikiki, or some other places like those. High density, and relatively flat. This car would probably be marginal in much of San Francisco.

This car is targeted to the person who has everything, and wants this extra toy! Midlife crisis, and it reminds me of my old neighbors who had two little children who they would drive around the neighborhood to their friends homes who lived a few blocks away. Since the speed limit was only 25 miles, it makes sense both economically, environmentally, etc. It could also be for the golf pro, the Tiger Woods of the world who wants to have a fancy golf cart, etc. This proves people will buy anything to gain acceptance or save the planet! You also realize that some people drive less to work, about a mile, and something like this works for a quick commute. I know a few people who would buy this before a Prius or a Mini Cooper, but not many.

No. It's overpriced, underpowered, and ugly to boot. Why is it that all cars made for efficiency have to look like some spaceship out of a bad sci-fi movie? I could maybe see myself buying something like a Smart, because it is efficient, can drive at the speed of traffic on all the roads in a typical city, and can be parallel parked anywhere. But even that probably won't happen for me until the thing looks more like a car than a spaceship.

Yet another product from the soon to be history Chrysler company..Listen up Detriot- people want cheap cars, true, but people also want quality cars.

So this looks cool, yippe. top speed 25mph? come on- maybe top speed of 50mph would work for in city only... top speed of 25mph and on some roads you are stopped for going too slow....

Is this the crap that our bailout money is paying for? I'd like my portion back please....

I would definitely not buy it. In fact I think this is a modern day Suicide Booth (Futurama reference). You get in any sort of accident and you will die or be seriously injured. It is also much overpriced. Things like this are why Chrysler is in big trouble financially.
