Massachusetts has voted for Ted Kennedy for decades. One factor in doing so is name recognition. Popularity is another. I think Curt Schilling has a shot at it just on the basis of these two points - he's well known and (arguably) well regarded.
Qualifications enter into the equation, but I'm writing from a state that has Arnold Schwarzenegger for a governor - well known, (arguably) well regarded, but lacking in governmental expertise. I could give additional examples, but you get the idea. Name recognition and image go a long way!

What really sinks his chances, though, is that Schilling is completely unable to stop talking whenever he sees a camera, and he speaks whatever is on his mind in a totally unfiltered manner. This makes him one of baseball's all time great interviews, tends to infuriate his teammates, and makes him totally unsuited to be a politicians, where avoiding gaffes is the name of the game.

Even with his highest highs he was very vocal and regularly called in to radio shows to talk, and was very opinionated (reported repeatedly on espn). As a result, many folks, myself included, found the person to be far less favorable then the mythical baseball player. Now a few years away from the sport, he has basically stayed off the radar, which can only help his chances. BUT, I just think there are too many haters and perhaps not enough lovers to get this done.
I feel the further he gets from bloody sock incident the harder it gets for him, and now years later, he faces a battle against the memory of him. Like a delicious meal you ate years ago, then re-ate recently, the memory of the meal is always superior. Curt will remain in Boston Nation hearts forever, but pending some major moves, he will not hold public office.
THANKS

Could Curt Schilling win if he were to run for the now vacant Senate seat in Massachusetts?
Curt Schilling had a very interesting interview on WEEI a Massachusetts radio station. I ask you to listen to this interview.
When he was asked "Are you planning or contemplating running for the vacant seat" he replied "I've thought about it" and stated in part two "The status quo sucks" and "The status quo is not working" and also stating that "some do" when asked if people (political operatives) thought his run for the seat would have traction.

• You gave the most hopeful outlook for Curt running and although though I believe he would not win it would be educational and interesting to see him give it a shot. Thanks.

No shot. Curt Schilling is a right wing Republican in a very left wing state, so he starts with the odds very much against him.

I agree as well. Curt is a registered independent however the dynasty of democrats and left wing status quo would be very difficult to overcome

I do not think he could win. Though he is beloved for his part in "sock gate", aka the bloody sock incident, and the championship run that followed, he is too polarizing a character. Even with his highest highs he was very vocal and regularly called in to radio shows to talk, and was very opinionated (reported repeatedly on espn). As a result, many folks, myself included, found the person to be far less favorable then the mythical baseball player. Former New Jersey senator Bill Bradley was been elected to office three times and even had a run for President.
I would bet the "Schwarzenegger Effect" will come into play here if Schilling runs.
In the interview when questioned on his qualifications he responded with "My qualifications are, I have no baggage".
The "Red Sox" effect times the "Schwarzenegger Effect" will certainly be interesting to watch if Curt runs.
