Been soooo long since i read this (and i never finished it), but stereotypes...the only thing I can think to comment on is that the characters were so driven to do what they did based on how certain people are treated, seen and judged based on societal expectations, I guess.
I don't know, I would have to read the book again and fully, or at least see the movie (which isn't very faithful to the book, I hear), to comment intelligently, but I'd examine the expectations that society places on characters as black and white as murdering prostitutes and well-liked Episcopalian priests, and look at how the actions of such individuals affect everyone around them.
I feel like I'm BSing my college professor into giving me a D- right now...
