Corporate communications typically refers to any type of communications coming from a company to the public. It is used to shape the image of the company in the public's mind. There are a number of avenues a company might use. The most common is commercials. Any commercial you see that isn't trying to sell a product, but rather talks about the history of a company, what good the company is doing, how the company supports the troops, etc is a form of corporate communication to try to improve the image of the company in your eyes.

It could also involve crisis management. If there's an outbreak of e. coli in peanuts, for example, you will see a number of communications coming out of the peanut industry to talk about how they're working on the problem, and that peanuts are almost universally safe, and you might see the CEO of a peanut company eating a bag of peanuts on TV.

But in a nutshell, corporate communications are the attempts by a company to improve its image to consumers, shareholders, and the general public.

It's got more than one meaning for me, depending on the use. Corporate communications could be the messages internal to the company - it's memos, emails, and policies. Or, it could be the press releases, advertising, and other image management messages external to the company.
