I would say, a Bachelors in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice, and a Masters in Criminal Justice or Sociology and at-least 5 years of local or state law enforcement experience with progressive responsibilities. A military experience is also a plus. It isn't east by any stretch, I think the best you can do is get a good law enforcement centered education, and really shine as a local or state cop for a while.
