What does a doctor do?
But its not tough as becoming doctor and not tough as what doctor do.
To simplify software testing is a fault finding work to make sure that the
software built/developed is working as expected both technically (as per technology used) and functionally (as per business rules), and there are functional tester.
As i said doctor do the fault finding in body and do provide medication and tips to fix issue in your body, but tester only find fault and at times can suggest his/her suggestions to better the application.
As you see in email registration form on any site expects you to provide
x number of chars for password or a number for zip code etc, you will have to understand what can go wrong in a given application, little insight of such things helps you grow as a tester and as and when you gain experience you become a better tester as you know the game of the trade as you come across testing same kind of applications and tasks.
To add to this a "Tester" need to be of a destroyer mentality as his primary job is try and break the application by all possible means, so you need to be a mini hacker kinda mentality to be tester.
Best of luck for your testing career.
