Edmond Halley lived from 1656 to 1742. The comet made an appearance in 1682, but it is not apparent if he saw the comet or not. The comet is on a 75-76 year cycle, and the next time it was seen was in 1759, 17 years after his death. His prediction was made in 1702, and he was proven right when it appeared in 1759.
