The bump is the result of your body bringing lots of immune and inflammatory cell filled fluid to fight the trauma. It will heal, but there isn't a great deal you can do about it in the mean time. You can ice it down which will help some, just make sure you have something between the ice and your forehead so you don't freeze your skin.

Really the only answer is time.... Bumps from trauma have to naturally work their way back down. That being said, cold can help limit the amount of swelling, so placing an ice pack on the bump might help.

When she originally got the bruise, I got on the internet and looked up head trauma since Natasha Richardson had recently died from a blow to the head. Much of the information was similar on many cites. Most blows to the head do not result in death and the goose-egg that results is from many broken blood vessels since the head has a large concentration of them just under the skin but on top of the skull. Ultimately, icing immediately afterwards is about the only thing you can do to reduce the swelling. Other than that the body has to work on its own.
As toddlers do when they are learning to walk, she had fallen off a bed. I called my doctor's office and the nurse on staff told me to monitor her for the first 20 minutes for immediate changes, then over the next few hours for any other kinds of changes in behavior. People hit should not go to sleep immediately. I was also told to wake her up after a few hours to make sure she would fully wake. These, however, are just precautions.

Note: I am not a doctor and if you are concerned that the bump is not going down in a normal time go see a professional! Really the only answer is time.... "One of the more common reasons behind swelling is some sort of physical trauma to the body. Slipping on wet pavement, twisting an ankle while running, or even something like walking into a door may create some type of swelling that must be addressed quickly. Applying ice as soon as possible will help to lower swelling and help facilitate the healing process." http://www.wisegeek.com/how-do-i-reduce-swelling.htm

My daughter received a really nice goose-egg on her forehead when she fell and hit a wall. The main lump stayed around for a few hours, then the swelling went down. However, a smaller bump remained for several weeks as the black and blue did its thing and turned yellow then disappeared. Consequently, I never iced my humerus, when it was fractured near the shoulder. It swelled to the size of a linebacker's, but the inflammation was completely gone on its own after two days.
