I started learning Spanish with the Rosetta Stone program and found it very useful for beginners, it's easy to use and has proven effective.

Depending on your level of knowledge, it would be helpful to read a book in french. When you get stuck there are always translating services online that I have found quite helpful. This is the one I use;

Don't go paying hundreds of dollars for software- I recommend getting Byki.
It's free language learning software for French. You just go to www.byki.com and click on French and shazam!
I've used Byki to start learning a few languages too! French and Japanese. Odd combo I know!
Have fun out there!

Immerse yourself. If you're Canadian, keep it on the french channel, both TV and radio. Take a class, and if you have to opportunity to practice with any french people do it often.
