There are various types of Dermatitis according to cause. So the treatment option are different for different types of Dermatitis.

Atopic Dermatitis - Chronic condition that occurs mostly in people with a family history of allergies. Hydrocortisone lotion is the treatment of choice.

Contact Dermatitis -occurs when the skin comes in contact with chemicals (such as, skin soap, cleaning products, rubber, metals, perfume, cosmetics or plants such as poison ivy).
Treatment consists of avoiding allergen or irritant substance. At times doctor may recommend a topical corticosteroid.

Asteatotic Dermatitis - when skin becomes very dry this dermatitis occur. Moisturizing is the treatment.

Neurodermatitis -caused by repeated scratching of the same area. Effected area can be covered by a dressing and left on for a week or longer. Hydrocortisone cream can be used for soothing.

Seborrheic Dermatitis - appears when sebaceous glands become infected or blocked. Treatments with topical corticosteroids, gentle or medicated shampoos. Some times, anti fungal drugs and Medicated shampoos contain tar, zinc, pyrithione, salicylic acid or ketoconazole is used according to the cause.

Stasis Dermatitis - affects the lower legs. stasis dermatitis is due to blood and fluids pooling in the lower legs. Elastic support hose , vein surgery and wet dressings are used to treat Stasis Dermatitis.
