Yes, I've taken 3 trips to El Salvador all for mission trips and none for vacation. We did spend one day each trip at the beach. I remember some of the waves hitting maybe 6-8 feet at the beach we were at. It was enough to make it unpleasant for swimming to far out.

I don't know if they have great surfing there or not, but here are some pictures from my trip:

Great choice, if you are thinking of going there for a surfing trip, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

El Salvador has some of the best surfing in Central America. The surfing areas are mainly divided in 2: "La Libertad" and the "Wild East".

In La Libertad you will find the beaches of El Zunsal and Punta Roca, with awesome point breaks. In the Wild East is Punta Mango - there's a surfing resort too.

There are many different surfing spots to choose from depending on your level of experience.
