What online services are available for running a fitness or martial arts club? What are the relative merits of the various services?

Basically I'm looking for software that would manage a fitness club or a martial arts dojo. The software should be entirely web based.

Preferably it would have the ability to allow students to book a class slot (like a cycle for a cycle fitness class) and pay for single or 'books' of classes or monthly/yearly dues.

Doh, great answer Dave but that's not what I was looking for. I'm looking for outward facing ... allowing students to sign up, book themselves into classes, check schedules, pay fees etc. etc.

Now I'm going to have to find a couple of Mahalo bucks to tip you for this answer :-)

So you are looking for more of an electronic store front with the ability to allow the clients to electronically schedule appointments and pay via paypal or visa etc. for services rendered.

My concern would be scheduling conflicts. Then there is the matter of cancellations. What fees if any apply for canceling an appointment...methods of refunding money or portions the payments...

I would suggest you contact a web designer and have a page built to suit your needs. I have done this kind of work in the past and it can be rather labor intensive. I might suggest you look at local colleges and technical schools. You can talk to the colleges and see if they will let you put up posters for students willing to do this kind of work. It might save you some money.
