Same reason people smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. It is a way for many to reduce stress and relax. Or for those who are chronically ill, a way to deal with symptoms of a disease.

I can't remember. All I know is I'm really hungry all of a sudden but it's taking me forever just to get to the corner store.

People smoke pot (marijuana) for multiple reasons. To chill out, relax, calm down. The feeling of being carefree with nothing to worry about. It helps some people to go to sleep, and some people have medical conditions that pot helps them to deal with concerning their physical pain.
