According to http://www.mult-sclerosis.org/news/Jan1999/HospitalStartsTrialofMarijuanaTablets.html Hospitals started giving a Marijuana Tablet, in replacement of actual Marijuana, The tablets do not give the person the High that actual Marijuana would give. According to the article the tablet is supposed to relieve pain. This was started to be testing in January 1999. I think it would be nice to see what they look like so here is a picture I am looking for one and I will post it as soon as I find it.
I found the picture here http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/ongoing/marinol.html

The active ingredient in "marijuana tablets" (brand name Marinol) is dronabinol, which is a synthetic version of *one* of the isomers of *one* of the molecules (delta-9 tetrahydrocannibinol or THC) found in marijuana. The supposed advantage of dronabinol is its uniform dosing, as opposed to the wide variability in marijuana potency. However, patients still report a wide range of psychoactivity, ranging from zero to a much stronger high than they get from pot. The relative risks and benefits of dronabinol tablets versus marijuana are still unknown (aside from the known risks of smoking pot as opposed to other forms of ingestion).
