As an adult, the closest I've ever come to getting in a fist fight is over a dog parked in a hot car.
I detest it. It makes me sick to my stomach. What an awful way to suffer or die.
A couple of times, on the hottest of hot days, I have called the police to report people for doing just that. Once in front of a pet store, once at a flea market.
In both cases, I called the police (which they are very happy to respond), and then announced very loudly to the store/flea market:
"Attention please: I have just called the police to report whoever owns the XX car - your dog is suffering in your hot car and you should be ashamed. The police will be here shortly, I suggest you help your dog NOW!"
Then I stay within eyesight of the car to stay with the dog until help arrives. In both cases, the owner - both times a woman - came running. The excuses are always the same "I was just browsing for a minute". But I know that's bull, because each time I did my own shopping before calling the cops, giving them a few minutes to get back to the car. When they haven't returned, THEN I make the call. In both cases as the women peeled out I was screaming that they should be ashamed of themselves and I'd like to lock them in an oven and see how they like it. And then I called them both murderers. My husband had to restrain me from going after them.
Yeah, not my proudest moments. But if my spectacle scared those women into not doing it again, then maybe I saved one dog.
Just so you know, I would break a car window if I had to. Even if it meant getting arrested.

I agree with gno that I would probably break a window to save a dog. I love my dog so much that I could not imagine such torture !

Do you agree it's too dangerous to leave pets in cars in hot weather?
I was appalled to see the story in the UK press about 2 Police Dogs which died when left in a car, what's your thoughts?

It's not only dangerous, it is a real crime - when I get into my hot car on a summer day I can hardly breath and rush to open the windows. I cannot imagine the torture a pet (and even children who have been left) goes through in the struggle to escape that intense heat. What are people thinking??? They can't really be that stupid can they? Yes I know the answer to that already. It's just amazing to me how this world works with so many stupid, thoughtless people in it! I agree with gno that I would probably break a window to save a dog. I love my dog so much that I could not imagine such torture !

Can you imagine what's going to happen to the 2 Police Officers who left these 2 highly-trained German Shepherd's to die?
There's an outrage about this and there's talk of an enquiry, this featured as a main story on tonight's BBC news.
BTW, how do ducks get on in locked cars in hot weather?
