Does it lower the value of Mahalo overall when Jason C. twitters so senselessly so often?

Tip for best answer: M$12.72
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

That is just Jason being Jason. He kind of has that Ted Turner brillant lunacy going on. I use the Turner reference because who has turned from any of the Turner's channels because of what Ted does or does not do.

Mahalo is getting big enough what Jason does or does not do will become a non issue. Jason set a brilliant foundation and it is his employees and members that are taking Mahalo to the next level. Jason Calacanis had earned the right to do whatever he wants.

The only time to worry about Jason is when the baby is acting up and he becomes sleep deprived. Then you might want to look out.

"June 21st...everything changes--again." <-----Why does this scare me so much? I want a T-shirt that says "I survived Mahalo 3.0"

In all seriousness, I really hope that in addition to the new features, Mahalo 4.0 will reign in a time period that offers less technical glitches and smoother operating for everyday Mahalo users and community members. Either that, or send us all a free supply of Excedrin.

Wow... i can get behind the crazy Ted Tunner thing... one of my heros!

With the addition of Jason Rapp as president, and us reaching operational break even (defined as, the # of people needed to run the current site... which is 15, as opposed to the 35 and growing we have), I feel we are in a great place.

We will be a top 100 site at this time next year..... and the new "follow a topic" feature will take Mahalo Answers from a couple of thousand dedicated daily users to 100k and then 1M--without compromising quality.

June 21st... everything changes--again.

I like the Ted Turner comparison. As for mahalo to the next level? I think I'll ask this as a question (are we even making money yet?)

I think Jason Calacanis knows what he's doing. Look at Mahalo, it is genius.

Uh, have you seen Sarah Palin's tweets--they show up on the news all the time and her political currency isn't dropping--she now even has a TV show.. (One from bp's Tony Hayward saying they had enough money to pay for everything came out yesterday, but I think that's a whole different ball of wax.)

Look it at it from a PR standpoint, and I don't necessarily believe this is why Jason Calcanis tweets about whatever it is he tweets about--I haven't looked: "Calcanis" and by association, "Mahalo.com" are put in front of people every time a tweet goes out. It doesn't really matter what he says. You saw it.

The mere fact that you mentioned Jason Calcanis' tweets means two things: a. You've seen more than one or follow his Twitter feed and b. You've heard of Mahalo.com, perhaps even visited the site. You may have even signed up and become active. We know that at least "b" is true.

To be an entrepreneur, you've got to think of these things and use every tool to your advantage if you're going to float. I don't know Jason Calcanis in any way other than what I've read about him here and in a quick online search. But I'm an entrepreneur, too. Perhaps he never thought about people following his tweets leading to increased membership on Mahalo, perhaps he did.

Bottom line: You saw it and you remembered it, and you're here. Perhaps not because of that (I'd love to know if so), but "Calcanis" can be factored out of the equation if even one person--in the industry or not--saw one of those tweets, came to Mahalo.com and became active.

And if you retweeted it and then someone signed up as a result of the RT, it's a high-tech version of "And they tell two friends, and they tell two friends, and they tell two friends..."

I suppose technically any new question regardless of the content of that question, spot of origination of that question, or who asked the question actually adds value to Mahalo. I cannot see how it would not.

So while I do agree that some questions that come through via Twitter and all other manners of getting questions here are not to my liking from strictly value added standpoint every single question adds at least some value to Mahalo.

More pages = more ads = more value

Not always what I like.. but true.

I hope what JC is doing is perfectly fine and it is no way lowering the value of Mahalo.

I have a few things to say here.

1. You should not judge a person just from a few tweets.
2. May be that you fail to understand what he wants to convey through his tweets.
3. May be it is too early to judge and he has some long term goals.

Overall, a brilliant person and a genius like Jason Calacanis knows what he is doing. We should not forget that it is due to his efforts that we are experiencing a nice site like Mahalo.

Hope that explains everything. Thanks

Don't get me wrong; I understand the Twitter operation and all that. I have an account. I've never used. I manag one for a local business.

So much rambling comes through--I may be the only person to not use internet on their phone capable of it, but all of my tweeting is done right here from my desk. You learn that some twits you can ignore, like the one that tweets "Baby crying." "Taking shower, gonna shave my lrgs" and "Crap, he's home and I don't want to go out tonite." All within 20 minutes. I look at that person's feed and still have no idea why they tweet their every breath.

As an entrepreneur, I'm sure Jason has goals--it's one of the things you do when you form a company--a mission statement says 'This is who we want to be and how we want people to see us," and in -house documents may have revenue goals, membership goals, hits goals, etc.

Don't we all do some "senseless tweeting" now and again? I mean, I don't know exactly what prompted this question, but I am just curious if @jason is the only person on Twitter the asker is following or what. I don't follow a whole lot of people myself, but I don't hardly notice the tweets from Jason unless I happen to be watching a person at that moment or go to his profile specifically. My Twitter feed probably also seems like a whole lot of endless, pointless rambling centered around a number of promoted links (most of which is also Mahalo), but isn't that what Twitter is for?

I like "you should not judge a person just from a few tweets." (Oh, please don't....you may also be misinterpreting what I wanted to convey through my tweets...if there really was anything that I intentionally wanted to convey. Sometimes genius and brilliance is unintentional...regardless of whether Jason knows what he is doing or not, it all works out.

Exactly, and we can see the impact of the social media presence of Mahalo through analytical reporting services like BackType. Social media presence=backlinks and traffic=more members, more ad revenues, better search engine rankings

I'm ambivalent towards the whole thing. On the one hand, I agree with the bird. On the other, I see the utility and interest of following friends and even certain celebrities.

As for Mr. Calacanis' "tweets" I can't really judge; sometimes I think they're pretty interesting though.

In answer to your question, I do not believe Jason Twittering lowers the value of Mahalo, in fact I feel the opposite, I believe it helps Mahalo. I have worked for many sites where you NEVER hear from the owner and rarely hear from anyone high up on the ladder. I think one of the reasons Mahalo is SO successful is his way of "being around" and interacting with the members. Mahalo is a bit hard to understand for beginners, because of the many ways of earning money here. It is nice to know you do not every have to wait a week, just to get an answer. Jason, Corey, Mike and so many more experienced Mahalo members are THERE for us with any questions or concerns. I LOVE their presence on the site! Tweeting to me just shows he is here, and he is here with big presence helping build his company and helping everyone around him succeed along with him, as I already know.

Despite Jasons strong relationship with mahalo his personal twitter account should not reflect the company's views. To do otherwise would be rather shallow However @jason does get annoying at times its easy to unfollow him.

The overall value of mahalo? no not at all. I agree with the other posters who say it just gets his name out there. But i do think twitter in general is bringing down the non-financial value and innovative use of technology. Sites like this make it seem like people who spend a lot of time on the computer are just gabbing back and forth on social networking sites. Which is what most people think I'm doing when i work from the computer.

A few months ago my co worker said something that really sums up my hate for sites like twitter: "Last night my facebook told me that i had 150 friends, but not one of those 'friends' would come over and have a beer with me." These sites make outgoing people like me feel weird about knocking on someones door and talking face to face, so they just tweet it or message it. Personally i think if you are not a pre-teen you shouldn't be on facebook or twitter. Just my opinion though, dont hate me, i know you all love social networking!
